Are you "over trained" ?

Do you need to train more ?

This is an area I have spoken to many people about before and quite recently as well and t’s certainly a subject many of us need to take a closer look at.

It’s not solely looking at the “training sessions” in isolation, we must consider other aspects which help to measure if we are training too much!

Nutrition, hydration, how you recover between sessions, injuries and even if your sleep has been constant all help to gauge if your training pattern is possibly a little bit too much!

Many have a thought process believing by adding in extra training days or sessions this will yield faster results - yes on one side this could push our body composition changes a little further, HOWEVER in doing so if your nutrition, hydration, rest and recovery aren’t in order you run the risk of overtraining which means your “extra” days or sessions become counter productive.

I do believe many people train too much, hammering out two or three sessions a day chasing results, cutting calories, getting up earlier or staying up later squeezing in more workouts, they train more than a professional athlete! Professional athletes have one job (in the majority of cases), they are all extremely good at making sure their nutrition is tip top making sure they get adequate calories to fuel each workout to give them optimum results. They are also extremely good at resting and they have access to prehab and rehab facilities through physio / massage etc which all help that recovery process.

The “everyday” trainer has a job or two already, and generally we try and “squeeze” workouts in around everything else that is going on in our lives, we stay up too late, we reach for “convenience” foods way too often and we don’t make time to rest - all this added stress WILL have a negative impact if we add that to a heavy and intense training programme.

If you aren’t getting your desired results have a look at your training pattern, have you increased it significantly or are you simply training too much. It might pay to drop a couple of sessions and spend that time prepping quality foods for fuel, or take the time to put the feet up for 30 / 40 minutes and read a book or have a nap!

I firmly believe the programme we have set out is very well thought out, we have dropped HIIT sessions out and added in extra “strength” sessions - there is a better balance now of HIIT, Strength, and MetCon workouts with sufficient rest periods between them, and when you add in the Meditation, Yoga and Pilates its such a well rounded programme.

We ALWAYS make the time to train, but rarely make the time to rest, recover, prep foods or simply just to relax!

If you find you lack structure and guidance in your current training programme, or should I say lack of programme, then drop me a message - I’d love to hear from you if you feel you’re simply “winging” it in your sessions and hoping for the best !

We've started the week strong on the programme - let's keep the momentum.

Have an awesome week everyone.
