Without stating the obvious (and with everything else going on) the Cold / Flu season is certainly upon us and i’ve had a heavy cold a few weeks ago (thankfully over it) and some of my clients have had it as well - it's been doing the rounds!
I remember years ago the “old answer” was to simply train through it all - “sweat it out of you”, how many have heard that before!
Without doubt this is some of the worst advice handed out and thankfully we are all more switched on now. If you’re unsure what to do when you have a cold or a flu in my opinion the following needs your consideration.
As I said above the “sweat it out” mentality has to stop - training needs to go on the back burner, hard training suppresses our immune system even further especially when its battling against a cold / flu - if you continue to train through it you will undoubtedly prolong the recovery process.
Most important is the following;
Stay HYDRATED - plenty of fluids will help to support our immune system along with keeping our MICRONUTRIENTS levels high - plenty of fruits, vegetables and be mindful to up your berries - high and very rich in antioxidants they are a must in our diets, NOT only when we are feeling under the weather!
In terms of calories, we should not be in a deficit - at the very least baseline but don’t be worried if you are in a surplus as it will help, being in a deficit will slow down your recovery!
Just a couple of things to keep in mind over the next few months, as we all know our health is our number one priority - and we can really help and boost our health & immune system through a smart training protocol and even more so by what we consume!
I’ve had a great week so far with the team and looking forward to finishing it with some great sessions - and being smart with my foods. If you’ve been thinking about joining and haven’t made the step yet send me a message if you have any questions.
If you have promised yourself you're going to start taking more care of yourself in 2022 you don’t have to wait - the worst promise you can break is the one you make to yourself.
Drop me a message if you want to start being more active, moving better and ultimately feeling awesome.
