Meal Prep for Fat Loss - Is It Essential ?

I wouldn't say it is 100% essential - however I would say that some of the best fat loss journeys I have witnessed have been from people who have prepared their meals and planned ahead in doing so!

Planning your own meals might give you the "kickstart" you need - but do you know how to start, for me you must have a strategy in place, the same you do with your training !

Developing a Meal Prep Strategy

Creating a robust meal prep strategy should be your first step for your fat loss journey - for me I would choose a Sunday (and Wednesday for a "top up" day) for meal prep days. This is how I would approach it;

  1. Plan Ahead: If you need to research recipes focused on whole foods that you actually like in order to achieve sustainability. Make sure your approach ensures your are consuming nutrient-dense meals, chicken, turkey, lean beef, fish etc are all good areas to start - build your recipes around these quality protein choices.

  2. Food Shopping: Once you have your weekly menu finalised and you know what you're planning on preparing then make a full list to go shopping with. STICK to this list - it will minimise any impulse buys like crisps, biscuits, and any lesser food / empty calorie choices !

  3. Batch Cooking: On prep day you don't need to cook for hours on end - dedicate a couple hours to cook large portions, trust me this will pay dividends and you won't go "looking" for meals / foods - you will have these at hand. I would prepare all my chicken, lean beef, fish etc, cut and chop my veg and a variety of roasted vegetables, cooked my baby boiled, rice, sweet potato etc and this would ensured I always had healthy meals "on tap".

  4. Storage Solutions: Investing in quality meal prep containers is crucial and easy to stack and store. I have found that containers with compartments helped me keep different food groups separate while making it easy to grab meals on the go. You can find these cheap enough on amazon !

    I hope this helps a little and gives you a better understanding on whats the best way to approach "meal prep".
